RANGE: Rocking Horses on traditional safety stands are available in 4 sizes for children from 2 years up to adults (99 years?) of 65kg – about 10 stone. A bow rocker design is available for children from 3 to 9 years.
Parents beware! Bow rockers give an exhilarating ride, but they are prone to creep across a room and can trap young fingers. Bow rockers require extra supervision. The safety stand was patented in the 1880's to overcome this problem.
TIMBER: The horses are crafted in air dried wood with character i.e. rosewood; walnut; olive ash etc., (subject to current stocks), with a tough but child safe finish. Or you can choose a horse with a traditional ‘dapple grey’ finish. The stands are made from a contrasting hardwood to the horse i.e. ash; elm or oak; etc. Side rails in oak, ash, elm or other suitable hardwoods.
ACCESSORIES: The reins and stirrup straps are detachable. The saddle is fixed for safety reasons. Genuine leather is used for these accessories and are available in London tan or Havana brown. Saddles are padded and finished in chrome leather. Choose either ‘antique’ dark red or Havana brown. Saddle blankets in your clan tartan (from £25+) or plum red; light red; blue; green – vinyl. Clamping brackets, domes and stirrups are all in solid brass. For extra safety, and recommended for young children a mounting step (+£50) and/or a pair of pommels on the neck (+£30) can be fitted in addition to the reins.
CERTIFICATION: Each ‘limited edition’ Rocking Horse has:-
~ been constructed to comply with the UK Toy (Safety) Regulations 1995 and has a CE kite mark.
~ a brass plate providing a unique number and date.
~ a brass plate for a personal message (max 12 words)
~ a framed ‘Certificated of Authenticity’ about the horse. |

THE CRAFTSMAN: I completed an apprenticeship as a shipwright working in wood and metals. After obtaining an HNC I worked for several years as a design draughtsman and this was followed by a spell in quality assurance in one of the Clyde’s shipbuilding yards. The last phase of my career was as a senior health and safety advisor. Early retirement was taken in 1996 and I started designing and crafting rocking horses in early 1997, using skills I had developed in my previous career. I soon found out that making rockers is a most satisfying and enjoyable experience.
